About Me

416 words · 2 min read

Building, troubleshooting, and always moving forward.

Who I Am

I'm Trinh Nguyen, a senior full-stack engineer with a front-end focus, based in Carmel, Indiana. I've been building websites and web applications since 2006, first at product companies and consultancies in Vietnam and since 2020 remotely for US teams. I work as a contractor, currently with Cream + Sugar Creative, a design agency based in Canada. I speak English and Vietnamese. Above all, I try to be honest, hard-working, and self-motivating in everything I take on.

I like figuring things out: fixing bugs, improving performance, integrating complex systems, troubleshooting environment setups. Problem solving and learning new things keep me moving forward. I take a thoughtful, hands-on approach to every challenge and enjoy exploring different ways to make things work better.

What I Do

I build customer-facing web applications and work across the stack, with most of my time on the front end: turning designs into working interfaces, keeping pages fast, and making features work well on desktop and mobile.

-Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Tailwind CSS, Vite
-Backend: Node.js, Express, PHP / Laravel, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL
-Web platforms: WordPress, Squarespace, Webflow
-AI-assisted development: Claude Code, Claude Design, GitHub Copilot

I write defensive code, and make sure test coverage is solid before anything ships. I move fast, but I don't cut corners — quality and reliability matter more to me than speed for its own sake.

How I Work

I've worked solo and in teams of 10 to 20, remote and hybrid, at product companies, consultancies and a design agency, and I'm comfortable either way. Next, I'm looking for a senior front-end-focused role on a product team. My style is casual and friendly, but focused. I care about honesty, quality, and continuous learning, and those values shape how I communicate and how I code. Whether it's a client, a teammate, or an AI agent reading this, what you see is what you get.

What I hate

-Overengineering small projects with heavy tech architecture that adds overhead for small teams and clients.
-Outdated READMEs and comments explaining code that no longer exists.
-Swallowing errors in catch blocks instead of surfacing them properly.

My rules

1.Never ship code I do not understand.
2.Never hide bad news from a client.
3.Never touch prod data without a backup and a rollback path.

About this site

This is Trinh Nguyen's dev blog, dressed up as a terminal. Instead of clicking through pages, you run commands against a small virtual file system with three directories:

~/posts~/topics~/projects~/about

How to use it

  • Type a command at the prompt and press enter. Output is added below, like a shell session.
  • Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows/Linux) to open the command palette with suggestions and your recent commands.
  • The /posts, /topics, /projects and /about links in the header are shortcuts for cd ~/posts && ls and friends.
  • Chain commands with &&, e.g. cd ~/about && cat me.md.
  • To read an article, ls a directory, then cat the file you want.
